Surprisingly, but not that much after all, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will return to face each other in a boxing ring.
“The match of the century”, therefore, will have an encore in Las Vegas, as confirmed by Netflix: the appointment is for next September 19th from the Sphere, as well as live on the platform itself, at no additional cost for its approximately 325 million users worldwide.
Mayweather – Pacquiao, how the first time went
Mayweather and Pacquiao faced each other for the first time on May 2, 2015, and the American won on points by unanimous decision from the three judges: 118-110, 116-112 and 116-12.
However, that match left a bit of a bitter taste, because it was later discovered that Pacquiao had fought with a shoulder injury, and in any case not at 100%. According to many observers, it generally hadn’t been very spectacular.
There will therefore be a rematch for the Filipino boxer, eleven years after that day that marked the careers of both.
There will be nothing at stake, as the two have already been retired, in theory, for a long time. At the time, however, it was valid for the Welterweight world crown.
Fifty-year-olds already “retired”
Mayweather and Pacquiao have dedicated themselves to completely different things in recent years. For Floyd, someone who has never hidden his “baller” habits, a return to boxing was announced; just a week ago he had announced this intention.
Manny, on the other hand, even went into politics, with a (failed) attempt to run for both the presidency of the Philippines in 2022 and re-election to the Senate. He, however, returned to boxing, competing and drawing against Mario Barrios in July 2025.
Both are definitely seasoned, we are talking about two near-fifty-year-olds: while Pacquiao is 47, Mayweather is 48 and “retired” in 2017, although since then he has participated in some exhibitions (the last one against John Gotti III in August 2024).
There may be no crown at stake but, at least for Floyd, the satisfaction of continuing his unbeaten streak, given that his record speaks of 50 wins (27 by KO) and no losses.
Who will win? Odds coming soon, meanwhile ticket prices skyrocket
The ones rubbing their hands are the organizers of the futuristic Sphere in Las Vegas, ready to host the match with ticket prices ranging from 500 to 3,500 dollars for non-ringside seats. For those, it will go into five-figure numbers.
After all, at the MGM Grand, where the first Mayweather-Pacquiao took place, the gate was 72 million dollars. Ticket sales will begin at the end of May.
