Premier League: the situation after the halfway point of the season
The English league currently crowns Arsenal as queen, but there is still a lot of play left, and the Gunners seem to be faltering: they haven’t won in 270 minutes, with two draws and a home defeat against Manchester United. Despite this uncertain performance in recent matchdays, Arteta‘s men lead with 50 points. The dream is to bring the Premier League trophy back to North London for the first time in 22 years.
Behind the leaders, only two teams are keeping pace: Manchester City and Aston Villa. Both are tied at 46 points and hope to catch the leader. Pep Guardiola‘s squad returned to winning ways in the last round, after failing to win in the previous four matches: three draws and one loss. Without this dip, the Citizens would have been in first place.
On the other hand, Villa have also paid the price for their numerous commitments between the old and new year, as evidenced by only two wins in their last five matches, against as many losses and one draw. Despite this slowdown, fans of the Lions at Villa Park dream of their eighth English title, which has been missing for 45 years: the last league title won was in 1981, when the Premier League was still called the First Division.
Behind this leading trio, there is a complete void. Suffice it to say that from the 46 points of Arsenal’s two rivals, we drop to 38 for a resurgent Manchester United: the Red Devils have had many ups and downs throughout the season, but since Ruben Amorim was replaced by Michael Carrick, the Red Devils seem to have found stability. The 3-2 victory on Sunday at Arsenal’s ground allows them to overtake Liverpool and take sole possession of fourth place.
The reigning champions are the big disappointment so far. 36 points and sixth place, two points behind the Champions League spots, with the defeat at Bournemouth ending an unbeaten run of 13 consecutive games in all competitions, but also extending manager Arne Slot‘s winless streak in the Premier League to 450 minutes.

Chelsea is sandwiched between United and Liverpool. A change of management seems to have given new life to the Londoners: Enzo Maresca has done his part, but with Liam Rosenior, the Blues have changed gears. 37 points and fifth place, one point behind the Champions League spots for the reigning world champions.
While behind Liverpool we find the London surprises, such as Fulham and Brentford, two teams that had very different ambitions at the start of the 2025-2026 Premier League are clearly lagging. Newcastle is keeping pace in the mix with 33 points, five behind fourth place, and Tottenham, with 28 points, is just eight points above the relegation zone.
Premier League: Arsenal with the title in hand
According to bookmakers, Arsenal will be the team to win the 2025-2026 Premier League. Despite the recent dip in form, all operators are convinced of the strength of Mikel Arteta‘s men, who dream of ending a 22-year drought in the north of the capital. And let’s not forget their commitments in the League Cup (final within reach after winning the first leg of the semi-final 3-2 at Chelsea), the FA Cup, and the Champions League, where the Gunners are guaranteed to qualify for the round of 16. Can the Gunners handle so many commitments?

Behind the leaders, betting agencies place City, although trailing: averaging 4.00, the Citizens appear to be Arsenal’s main challenger. Master Guardiola chasing student Arteta. And for Haaland and his teammates, the Champions League campaign can add or subtract energy in the final sprint.
There is considerable skepticism, however, regarding Aston Villa: despite their second place alongside Manchester City at 46 points, Unai Emery‘s team is not considered a potential title contender by bookmakers. The fact that they play in the Europa League on Thursdays likely weighs heavily, and this is undoubtedly a factor not to be underestimated. The Lions as English champions have odds around 15.00.
Let’s look at the details.

The Prediction: City will bloom in Spring? Very likely
Since Pep Guardiola took charge in 2016, Manchester City has won a remarkable six Premier League titles in nine seasons; only Liverpool twice and Chelsea under Conte have managed to break the dominance of the Sky Blues. What has always been striking about the Catalan coach’s team is the clear change in pace from February onwards: while others struggle and the fatigue of a tight season takes its toll, City takes flight, as a well-known beverage commercial suggests.
As Spring approaches, the Citizens start to increase their tempo and extinguish all hope for their rivals. This time, Bernardo Silva and company are chasing Arsenal, four points behind and with the same commitments in domestic and European cups. So, it remains to be seen how far Guardiola’s men can go in Europe. But the feeling persists that this team can truly aim for a winning comeback in the Premier League, and let’s not forget that in the last two transfer windows, the club has invested over half a billion pounds. In short, the team and the champions are there. And above all, there is a certain Haaland in attack who can be the deciding factor in the title race. Therefore, Arsenal leads, but Spring may smile on Manchester City once again, making them our primary option.

Roll of honor of the event
The English league has been played for 138 years, with the first title awarded to Preston North End in the 1888-89 season. Since then, except during World War II, football across the Channel has become a religion. Manchester United is the team that has won the most titles along with Liverpool: both have 20. Arsenal follows with 13 wins, while City has 10 league triumphs. Among the current 20 Premier League teams, Newcastle is the team that has gone the longest without winning the title: a full 99 years. Their centenary year could be the one.
