The countdown to one of the most important tournaments of the first edition of the MicroMillions being played on PokerStars Poker and Sisal Poker is getting shorter and shorter, as the doors of the Monster 50 will open at 9:00 PM on Sunday, February 1st.

In recent days, we have brought you articles on the tournament presentation with technical sheets and satellites that will be played from now until the start of event number 80 of the online festival dedicated to players who prefer low buy-ins.
The Monster 50 is ready to launch
The average buy-in for MicroMillions has always had, and will continue to have, the characteristic of being almost always affordable for a large portion of players who frequent the PokerStars and Sisal lobbies, but not for all tournaments played within the event, this is absolutely true.
The buy-in for the Monster 50 is, as the name of the event suggests, €50, and Sunday evening will be only the first of the two days into which this event, which carries a guaranteed prize pool of €400,000, is divided.

The format is one of the most popular in recent years of online poker history, the Mystery Bounty, which, in terms of pure strategy, shifts the balance very significantly.
The start time is set for 9:00 PM, and players begin with 50,000 chips and a first level of 100/200 with a 20 ante, with 20-minute levels; a start characterized by very high playability, which gradually reduces as the blinds increase, so much so that the duration of each segment reduces to 12 minutes starting from level 18.
Very long late registration
Late registration, as always happens with tournaments spread over two days, is quite extensive, about 25 hours from the first level of the opening day, and it will be possible to make 4 re-entries, an option reserved for those who can afford to play aggressively in the first part of their journey.
The mystery envelopes only come into play when all players have passed the bubble burst, and from that point on, the entire reference strategy changes.
This means setting limits on how you play within the Monster 50 to avoid making irreparable mistakes, the first of which is losing significant portions of your stack in the early stages of the event, when losing less relevant chips is a much greater risk than maintaining an adequate stack that will be needed in the crucial moments of the tournament.
This type of initial progression brings with it a peculiarity that should never be overlooked: the very first levels require a lot of attention regarding the ranges to use and the positions in which you want to participate in the hand.

Marginal spots? No thanks
Having such high blinds in the first two or three levels leads one to think that you are deep enough to use ranges sensibly.

In an 8-max dynamic, this means being a bit looser than in 9-max, but it’s not a free-for-all; 3-betting with discretion, especially against those opening a bit too much from late position, and above all, playing post-flop by exploiting the typical weaknesses of occasional players: people who c-bet excessively, people who don’t defend their blinds, people who call “just to see” if they can hit their hand.
The characteristic that will earn the most EV on Day 1 is often trivial: don’t give away stacks in marginal spots. If you have to choose between a “40bb flip” and a “low-risk line against a recreational player who calls too much,” the second option becomes gold on Day 1.
The change of skin on Day 2 of the Monster 50
Let’s imagine we’ve reached the money: now the Mystery Bounties are active, and a completely different tournament begins.
As soon as the Mystery Bounties become claimable, the priority becomes playing more pots in position against stacks you can cover. Because when you cover, every all-in won is not just chipEV: it’s also a “lottery ticket” with a potentially huge prize.
The ideal is to try to approach this dynamic with a larger stack than the average of the players still in the game, so you can play showdowns with the chance of drawing a bounty.
This means tighter ranges in all-in spots without coverage, heavier post-flop value, and targeted aggression where your stack allows you to “collect envelopes” without constantly putting your life on the line.
The strongest leverage, if we have the stack, will be pressure on medium stacks who don’t want to bust: frequent opens from late position, more selective but aggressive 3-bets, and many pots in position.
However, avoid the classic Mystery Bounty mistake, which is not giving double-ups to big stacks thinking “I’ll recover with a bounty later.” Here, the value also lies in staying alive with a stack that allows us to put anyone in difficulty.
