Roland Garros: the world championship on clay
All tennis fans know that there are four Grand Slam events, but only two have maintained their original surface from the beginning: Wimbledon for grass and Roland Garros for clay.
This year’s edition will be the 125th of a very popular tournament, the dream of millions of players and fans. When one says “Roland Garros”, two absolute dominators come to mind, two players who have marked the history of the tournament and this sport: Rafa Nadal and Björn Borg. The Swede between the late ’70s and early ’80s, the Spaniard from 2005 to 2022, the last of 14 gems that made Nadal the most successful in the history of this tournament, as well as the player capable of winning the same tournament the most times. These are the tennis players who have most often lifted the trophy to the sky on the Roland Garros center court.
| PLAYER | ROLAND GARROS TITLES |
|---|---|
| Rafael Nadal | 14 |
| Björn Borg | 6 |
| Mats Wilander | 3 |
| Ivan Lendl | 3 |
| Gustavo Kuerten | 3 |
| Novak Djokovic | 3 |
| Jan Kodeš | 2 |
| Jim Courier | 2 |
| Sergi Bruguera | 2 |
| Carlos Alcaraz | 2 |
How it went in 2025
Unfortunately, this is a sore point for Italian fans. Jannik Sinner, despite the three-month suspension agreed with WADA that forced him off the courts until early May, managed to qualify for the Roland Garros final against his long-time rival, Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian managed to go up two sets to zero, even had three match points in the fourth but wasted them and finally lost in the fifth, 4-6 6-7 6-4 7-6 7-6 in 5 hours and 29 minutes of play, for the longest final in the tournament’s history and the second longest ever in a Grand Slam, after the 2012 Australian Open final won by Novak Djokovic over Rafa Nadal.
Roland Garros 2026: odds and ante-post betting
As we write, the odds are generally focused on the Alcaraz-Sinner duo but, broadening the spectrum, we can identify three other counter-favorites based on the evaluations of some of the best legal online bookmakers: Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, and Lorenzo Musetti.
The evaluations seem similar, but they are less so than they appear. In general, Alcaraz is the top favorite – albeit slightly – over Sinner. But for example, Betsson (here you can read our review of Betsson Betting) sees them exactly equal.
The eternal Djokovic and the eternal promise Zverev share the role of the third contender. For the experts at Bet365 (here is our review of Bet365 Betting) and Betsson, the two start with the same odds, while Goldbet (here is the Assopoker review for Goldbet Betting) sees the German ahead, while bwin (here is the review of bwin Betting) puts the Serbian champion slightly ahead.
Lorenzo Musetti is placed, more or less unanimously, among the top five or six favorites, with odds always around 20.00.

Possible surprises
In reality, the actual favorites are only two, as are the so-called counter-favorites. From Musetti down, bookmaker evaluations are very different. Goldbet, for example, looks favorably on the Spaniard Davidovich-Fokina (given at 11.00), while two players returning from rather serious injuries are also highly regarded: Jack Draper and Arthur Fils. The Englishman fluctuates between Betsson’s odds of 20.00 and the 26.00 assigned to him by Bet365. The Frenchman, on the other hand, suffered a stress fracture to a vertebra right at Roland Garros 2025, a problem that then kept him off the courts practically until the beginning of 2026. Potentially, we are talking about the best French player of this generation, with qualities well within the top 10. Therefore, his valuation from Goldbet’s 23.00 to the 34.00 of Bet365, Betsson, and bwin, holds a certain appeal.
The Brazilian golden boy, Joao Fonseca, is also much talked about. Despite disappointing at the Australian Open, partly due to a back problem, he is worth odds from Goldbet’s 21.00 to bwin’s 26.00.
This is the summary of the most reliable surprises.
