Men’s Downhill: Favorites, Odds, and Prediction
A head-to-head for the victory in this race at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games, which will actually be held on the Stelvio slope in Bormio: Von Allmen and Odermatt are the two candidates for the gold medal, in a razor-thin Swiss derby.
| Operator | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
|---|---|---|---|
| Von Allmen | 3.00 | 4.00 | 3.50 |
| Odermatt | 3.50 | 3.00 | 3.50 |
| FRANZONI | 6.00 | 8.00 | 9.00 |
| Monney | 10.00 | 9.00 | 9.00 |
| Kriechmayr | 10.00 | 9.00 | 11.00 |
| PARIS | 10.00 | 13.00 | 12.00 |
In the season’s downhill standings, as well as the overall standings, Odermatt shows a fairly clear dominance, having won 3 races compared to Von Allmen’s 2.
In recent weeks, Franzoni’s “stock” has risen, having won the downhill on the legendary Streif in Kitzbühel and arguably the most in-form Italian, if we stick to the Italian group.
However, it’s impossible not to notice how the absolute master of the Stelvio slope is Dominik Paris, who has triumphed here on 6 occasions. The slope, on the other hand, is quite “cursed” for the Martian Odermatt, still winless in his career (at best a second place for him), as is his compatriot Von Allmen.
That said, the opportunity for Odermatt to complete a streak of victories, or medals, at the Milan-Cortina Games is enticing, in practically all disciplines.
There are outsiders, starting with Paris himself, who in our opinion is the best at that price, or the Austrian Kriechmayr, who has already won once on the Stelvio in his career.
Women’s Downhill: Favorites, Odds, and Prediction
As for the women’s race, the favorite is Sofia Goggia, quite clearly, with Vonn, Aiche, Weidle-Winklemann, Brignone, and Johnson expected to contend for the podium.
| Operator | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
|---|---|---|---|
| GOGGIA | 2.25 | 2.35 | 2.37 |
| Vonn | 8.00 | 6.00 | 8.00 |
| Weidle-Winklemann | 15.00 | 10.00 | 10.00 |
| Aicher | 8.50 | 10.00 | 10.00 |
| BRIGNONE | 12.00 | 15.00 | 13.00 |
| Johnson | 12.00 | 21.00 | 13.00 |
What has the women’s World Cup season told us so far regarding downhill? Lindsey Vonn leads the standings with 400 points, revived at 41 years old, but the American, by her own admission, will arrive at Milan-Cortina with a torn knee ligament due to a fall in the last pre-Olympic trial in Crans Montana.
Behind her are the Germans Aicher and Weidle-Winklemann with 256 and 232 points, then our Pirovano (not among the favorites for victory at the Games) and Goggia. With Sofia clearly having skied “on eggshells” so far, to avoid falls and injuries and to focus entirely on the race scheduled on the Olimpia delle Tofane slope.
A slope where she has won 4 times in her downhill career, compared to Vonn’s 6, who, however, should be considered only partially fit, barring pre-race tactics.
Will it therefore be a two-way battle between these two champions? Eicher should also not be underestimated, having won once in the World Cup downhill season.
Given the odds, the German, considering the tension that will grip Goggia and Vonn’s likely precarious condition, is worth considering, not to mention Pirovano, of course, who is priced at 15.
