Filippo Candio and his return to live poker: the interview with Assopoker

On the occasion of the PokerStars Open, we had a chat with a special guest: Filippo Candio. The Sardinian, the first Italian November Nine in history, has had a rather discontinuous relationship with poker for years. A relationship made of goodbyes that then become see-yous, fleeting returns and new disappearances.

In this interview, Filippo partially explains the reasons, also hinting at a health problem that has been afflicting him lately and which casts doubt on yet another return to playing poker. However, the current one is a return of the fully “Candio style”: a first place in Nova Gorica and then a third place in the PokerStars Open High Roller that was played at that very stop in Campione d’Italia.

Candio and comparisons with the poker of the past

In the interview, the player from Cagliari ranges over various topics and does not shy away from comparisons, first and foremost between the current Filippo and the one from 15 years ago, but not only that. He also talks about the difficulties of the field, how professionals of that time lived poker compared to how young pros do today. And even on the game itself, Filippo Candio has more than a few things to say, also because – by his own admission – he has played little in recent years but has studied poker a lot. “Math never makes mistakes, but it can’t say everything”, is the summary of Candio’s thinking, in relation to a game that is not yet solved and is constantly evolving.
